We give our friend our complete attention when the dog looks at us directly in the eye. You know that look. Your mom or dad will look you right in the eye when they want your attention. Your parents don’t have to say a single word. They just look you in THE EYE!
When the shepherd is in the field with us, and wants to move us to a new pasture, we will hear the shepherd whistle. The whistle is a command the dog understands. Each whistle is different. There are short whistles, long whistles, very musical whistles, and single, double or triple whistles. Whistles are a language shared by the shepherd and the dogs. Can you whistle?
Our friends, the bordie collies, are really good at their job. And they work very hard, too. Mostly, they are on the constant watch for animals that want to eat us for dinner .Animals like Coyotes! They are not our friends.
When our coats get long, we often are shaved. It’s called sheep shearing.
Our wool is used for making yarn and fabric. Lots of people knit around here. Knitters like to make beannies to wear on their heads. Our wool can be seen all over town during ski season.
We never get bored. We look for four leaf clovers in the pastures. We play hide and seek with the sheepdogs. Looking for good food takes a long time. And, we like to find shapes in the clouds on a warm, lazy summer day. We like looking at the clouds.
